Ahead of Assembly poll in his home state-Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented a big gift to people of Gujarat.
He inaugurated the first phase of the ferry service- Ro-Ro Ferry Service which is considered as dream project of PM Modi.
Here take a look why the project is so significant:

The ferry service reduced the distance between Ghogha in the Saurashtra region and Dahej in south Gujarat.
The project cut short from 310 kilometres by road to 30 kilometres.

Many working in the diamond-cutting and polishing hub of Surat will hugely benefit from the service.
In the second phase - which is expected to be ready in two months - cars can also be carried between the two towns.
It is a complex project which involves complicated marine structure of the Gulf of Cambay, on which it is built.

In the final phase, the ferry would also have the facility to carry trucks between the two regions.
The idea of the ferry service was first conceived in early 1960s.

Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the project in January 2012.
