JAIPUR: A slum area in Pal Bechla locality of Ajmer is celebrating the success of its six children who have scored 80% and above in the Class X RBSE result announced on Monday. These children of daily wage earners studying in a government school in the locality which doesn’t have a maths or science teacher have surprised everyone by their marks in maths, science, English, and social science. Similarly, four children of a common background residing in Dargah Bazaar and Ander Kote locality have scored the unbeatable score in Class X.The common bond between these two groups living in different areas is a 48-year-old maths teacher Sunil Jose, who is running a free coaching class for children of Class X. He is teaching these students in a coaching center for free. The criterion he follows is that the student has to be from economically weaker section and enrolled in a government school. “The result has filled me with joy. These children are very vulnerable. Failure or poor marks can result in drop outs. All they need is assistance in studies and they can prove that they are no less than anyone,” said Jose. This assistance is driving students to dream big. Jose’s student Tamanna Goswami scored 93% in Class X exam and has inched one step closer to her dream of pursuing medical. “I was told that if I score anything above 80% that would increase my chance of receiving donation to prepare for medical. I am sure somebody will help me in achieving my dream,” said Goswami. She missed the highest score in Ajmer by less than one percent.Hailing from Calicut in Kerala, Jose is a teacher at St Anselm’s Senior Secondary School in Ajmer for last 22 years. Known as ‘Master Sahab,’ Jose had hit headlines in 2016 when his free coaching for JEE produced three success stories. “It required a lot of resources to run the JEE coaching starting from expert teachers to study material. I dropped it after the resources depleted and started teaching Class X students which requires very less resources,” said Jose.A total of 72 students have been given free coaching by Jose and his team. They also provide assistance like free stationary, notebook and pens with the help of donors who don’t want to be named.
