Rally chokes major streets in Jaipur

However, the traffic congestion began to ease after 6pm when buses began to leave the city.Heavy traffic congestion was also reported on Sikar Road, Tonk Road, Ajmer Road, Kalwar Road and Agra Road. But the vehicular traffic had returned to its normal pace by the evening.Buses coming from different districts chocked many stretches, including Tonk Road, JLN Marg, Gandhi Circle to Laxmi Mandir intersection, Rambagh and Bhavani Singh Road. The traffic moved bumper-to-bumper on Sehkar Marg, Ambedkar Circle, and Naryan Singh Circle till the rally got over.The traffic police on Friday had said that the rally will affect the traffic on six major roads especially between 1pm to 4pm.

The parking for different districts was earmarked at Poddar School, Commerce College and Rajasthan College.Beneficiaries from different districts walked through the road from Gandhi Circle to Bapu Nagar and then till main venue, similarly, huge crowd beneficiaries walked from Laxmi Mandir to Amrduo ka Bagh.Several shops remained closed due to the Prime Minister’s rally, including Lal Kothi fruit market; some shops behind Vidhan Sabha too remained closed.Several shopkeepers also kept water tanks and erected tents to help beneficiaries. “The crowd was disciplined; no untoward incident involving any of the people attending the rally was reported,” an official told TOI.The Jaipur traffic police had deployed 140 cops on the traffic duty for the mega rally. Traffic snarls at JLN Marg, Gopalpura, and Jawahar Nagar created problems for residents of Tilak Nagar, Raja Park and Bapu Nagar.The traffic police said that most of the buses had left the city by Saturday evening. “There were congestions on some roads, but snarls were quickly resolved after we diverted the traffic. By evening all roads were cleared,” the official said.A 65-year-old woman from Alwar who had come to attend the rally was seriously injured and rushed to the SMS hospital after she met with an accident near Commerce College at 3pm. She was critically injured when taken to the hospital.
