Supply drinking water to Ajmer schools PHED told

Posters stating “Bisalpur Hijack” came up in Ajmer city criticizing the state government for making the supply of Bisalpur water to Jaipur. AJMER: District magistrate Arti Dogra directed officials of PHED (Public Health Engineering Department) to act against illegal water connections in the district. Officials briefed that Bisalpur dam is going to have water for supply only till February 2019 and after that, it is not possible to supply water from there. She also directed the department to ensure that drinking water reaches every school, especially government schools situated in remote regions.Drinking water supply from the Bisalpur dam has become a major issue for Ajmer and it would affect the drinking water supply to government schools situated in remote villages of the district. She directed the officials to make a time table of the supply and to inform the people about the timing of supply of water to different regions.

Many villages are also complaining of low water supply and the matter has also been raised in the meeting of Zila Parishad, where representatives of panchayats demanded report on this issue.Ajmer, Jaipur and Tonk are now getting 20 percent less water supply from the Bisalpur dam and from October 1, the supply will reduce to 50 percent. But these posters were immediately seized by municipal corporation, to control tension in the city.District collector Arti Dogra took the meeting of PHED officials in which she warned the department and directed to manage the supply system without any loss of water. Officials briefed that Bisalpur dam is going to have water for supply only till February 2019 and after that, it is not possible to supply water from there. Even rains in last week brought only three centimetres of water in the dam.Officials said that the capacity of dam is 38.7 TMC water, but this time, only nine TMC water is left. The dam was having 309.4 metres of gauge on Thursday, while the capacity is 315.5 metres and it will be hard to access quality water when the height decreases to 299 metres.Looking at such a condition, Dogra directed district education officials to make available, the list of those schools where there is no facility of drinking water or where there is scarcity, and PHED officials will ensure drinking water supply to schools, especially schools situated in remote regions.She also directed to remove and seize illegal connections of drinking water from the Bisalpur dam. She directed the officials to make a time table of the supply and to inform the people about the timing of supply of water to different regions. She also asked officials to take help of Panchayat Samitis to get local water storage.
