Deficit rains in 10 districts, tough time for farmers

Farmers in the districts including Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Nagaur, Pali, Jalore and Sirohi are going to face a tough time, as their sowing of Kharif crop has not been fruitful so far. Many farmers had sown Kharif crop by taking seeds on credit, but all their crops are majorly damaged due to water crisis. JAIPUR: South west monsoon is almost over and there will be tough days ahead for the farmers in Jalore, Sirohi, Nagaur, Pali, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Jaisalmer, where rainfall has been below expectations. “In this year so far, till Thursday, an average rainfall of 493.74 mm is recorded, which is almost 2.10 percent lesser compared to 504.35 mm recorded till September 13, 2017,” said an official. In 2017, Rajasthan had got an average rainfall of 530.08mm.

JAIPUR: South west monsoon is almost over and there will be tough days ahead for the farmers in Jalore, Sirohi, Nagaur, Pali, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Jaisalmer, where rainfall has been below expectations. Many farmers had sown Kharif crop by taking seeds on credit, but all their crops are majorly damaged due to water crisis. Likewise, bad rainfall this year so far, may also take a toll on pulses and soyabean at Hadauti region covering Kota, Jhalawar and Baran districts.According to the Jaipur met office, in this season so far, only four districts, including Baran, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur and Sikar, have received excess rainfall till Thursday. “21 districts in the state including Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Tonk and Udaipur have got a normal rainfall,” said the officials. Farmers in the districts including Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Nagaur, Pali, Jalore and Sirohi are going to face a tough time, as their sowing of Kharif crop has not been fruitful so far. “Such is the scenario that if a farmer has purchased seeds for Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh per four hectare of land by taking this amount on loan from private agencies and banks, and now they are unable to repay it as all the sown area has not been fruitful,” said Ram Singh Bishnoi, a farmer from Pali district of the state.Excessive rainfall in the Hadauti region has also affected the crop of bajra, pulses and soyabean.
