JAIPUR: The city police have made elaborate security arrangements for all 2,821 polling booths in the city on election day scheduled for Friday.Speaking to TOI, additional commissioner of police (Crime) Nitin Deep Blaggan said that one constable each would be deployed at polling booths. “At clusters where one building has more than one polling booth, there will be additional force deployed,” he said, adding that flying squads will keep a vigil in their earmarked areas.Highly trained commandos of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will stand guard in all nine constituencies on the polling day. “Three QRTs each will be deployed in nine constituencies,” he said.Trained on lines with the best commando squads of the country, QRT commandos are known to quickly thwart any armed assault. They are also armed with best in class attack rifles, short to medium and long range guns.In addition to the QRT, Static Surveillance Teams (SST) will also mount vigil in all constituencies of the city. There are about 75 polling booths which have been designated as "sensitive" by the police. Additional police protection will be deployed around sensitive booths to ensure that local strongmen are not able to influence elections. The police also said that the city police control room (PCR) will have a sufficient number of police squads at their disposal. “In events where PCR receives a distress call, they will have a fleet ready to move accordingly,” Blaggan said.Presently, a “category A” patrolling remains in place in all 58 police station areas of the city. The patrolling manual stipulate that Station House Officers (SHOs) lead checking and searches during “category A” patrolling. In October this year, the Rajasthan police headquarters (RPHQ) had issued a long list of “Dos and Don’t,” for men-in-khaki mounting nocturnal checking. The instructions included keeping firearms ready during searches. In addition to carrying their service weapons during patrolling, officials were also been instructed to wear bullet-proof vests and travel in bullet-proof vehicles which could give them some safety against the enemy. The police will also involve its best shooters during ‘A grade’ or high-alert patrolling. “Each police station has at least five trained shooters. These are young constables who were trained in operating standard Rajasthan police weapons such as INSAS and SLR rifles. In events where an official expects some confrontation, they must take these marksmen along with him or her,” an official added.
