Sikar tops dist health ranking, Jaipur-I among underdogs

JAIPUR: Sikar has emerged as the best district in online district health ranking, issued by the health department.It is the fifth time when health department has issued the ranking of districts on the basis of health indicators. Being the state capital, Jaipur-I’s poor performance in state health ranking is a major concern for health authorities. Out of five times, Sikar has bagged the first place four times. However, Jaipur-II, which covers mostly the rural area of Jaipur, has secured a place in the list of best performing 10 districts.Health department officials pointed out that they had started district health rankings for infusing a sense of competition among the districts, to perform better than the other districts. Jhunjhunu reported 57% ANC in October, which was 33% in June.However, Dholpur was appreciated for increase in blood slides college for malaria test, Alwar was praised for increasing the supply of medicines and vaccines, and Nagaur got the recognition for salary approval based on performance of auxiliary nurse midwives and lady health visitor Jaipur has secured fifth position in the list of 12 districts in the worst districts group.

Jhunjhunu had secured the first place only once.Sikar has been adjudged as the best, on the basis of its performance on the parameters of infant and maternal care, immunization coverage, patients’ satisfaction, institutional deliveries, antenatal check-ups, family welfare and many other such health indicators, said Veenu Gupta, additional chief secretary (health).In the current ranking, Jhunjhunu was at the second spot and Ajmer bagged the third position, in the list of best performing districts in health.The health department’s ranking report shows that pregnant women receiving four antenatal check-ups (ANC) in Sikar had increased from 38% to 65% from June to October.
