Mercury takes upward swing, rains follow

JAIPUR: After a prolonged spell of cold wave conditions, mercury took an upward swing across the state, providing a much-awaited respite. It was followed by a cloudy afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 22.8 degree Celsius, almost one degree above the normal notch. Cloudy condition during the day was followed by rainfall at many places in the state, including Jaipur on Thursday. Some places in western Rajasthan are likely to see hailstorm in the next 24 hours. In its forecast, Jaipur met office said that cloudy conditions will prevail at many places in the state.

Pilani remained coldest in the state where a minimum temperature of 3.5 degree Celsius was recorded, the met reports said.Attributing the climatic change to the active western disturbances, the Jaipur met office said that mild showers will take place at many places in the northern and eastern Rajasthan , while hailstorm is likely to take place in western Rajasthan.Jaipurites woke up to a comparatively warmer morning, as a minimum temperature of 11.9 degree Celsius, almost three degrees above the normal notch, was recorded. It was followed by a cloudy afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 22.8 degree Celsius, almost one degree above the normal notch. In the evening, mild showers were witnessed in and around Jaipur.In the morning, fog and mist affected the air, road and rail traffic. A few early-morning flights from Delhi got delayed while at least half-a-dozen early-morning trains arrived late at the Jaipur railway station. The buses on the highways connecting Jaipur to Agra and Jaipur to Delhi, were moving at a slower pace, during early morning and late evening hours due to fog.Pilani was followed by Sriganganagar where a minimum temperature of 3.8 degree Celsius was recorded, Udaipur 6.6, Churu 10.0, Bikaner and Jaisalmer 10.3 degree Celsius each, Jodhpur 10.6, Kota 10.7, Ajmer 11.4 and a minimum temperature of 13.6 degree Celsius was recorded in Barmer.Some places in the northern and eastern parts of the state also witnessed mild showers in the evening, that guided mercury to take a dip. In its forecast, Jaipur met office said that cloudy conditions will prevail at many places in the state. Some places in western Rajasthan are likely to see hailstorm in the next 24 hours.
