Government-Gujjar talks fail; trains, recruitment exams cancelled

We are very sensitive towards providing you the required five per cent reservation and are keen that this time it may not get stuck in some legal web,” he said, addressing the community members. The recruitment test for anganwadi supervisors, scheduled to be held in Ajmer on Sunday, was also postponed. The state government was also forced to postpone the recruitment test for agriculture supervisors, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday in Kota and Jaipur.

MAKSUDANPURA (SAWAI MADHOPUR): Rail traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai route continued to be affected on the second day of the Gujjar agitation for quota after the community continued their 'dharna' on tracks at Maksudanpura and rejected state government's proposal for talks.The state government's foiled attempt to get the agitators to the table for talks led to the cancellation of 12 trains and diversion of 22. The state government was also forced to postpone the recruitment test for agriculture supervisors, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday in Kota and Jaipur. The recruitment test for anganwadi supervisors, scheduled to be held in Ajmer on Sunday, was also postponed. The exams were to be held by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board.Chief minister Ashok Gehlot , who was in Delhi on Saturday, appealed to Gujjar community members to vacate the tracks. "Their demands can only be met after amendments to the Constitution. So, they should submit a memo to the prime minister," he said while addressing the media there.Col Kirori Singh Bainsla, who is heading the Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti and the agitation, blamed the government. "The government should have given us long back what had been promised," he said.Maksudanpura (Sawai Madhopur): A delegation, comprising cabinet minister Vishvendra Singh and Neeraj K Pawan IAS, had met Bainsla and others on Saturday evening, urging them to hold talks at a nearby venue.Singh tried to convince the agitators that the state government was sensitive about their demand for five per cent reservation under the Most Backward Classes (MBCs).“I have associated with all your agitations and I have a family relation with you all. We are very sensitive towards providing you the required five per cent reservation and are keen that this time it may not get stuck in some legal web,” he said, addressing the community members. He requested them to form a delegation of 13 to 25 members for talks.However, his proposal for talks was rejected by Bainsla and the rest, who demanded the government send its representatives with official documents approving the quota. Vijay Bainsla, son of Kirori Singh Bainsla, said, “It’s an eyewash. They came and brought nothing. Let’s see how things unfold on Sunday.”
