AJMER: Tension spread in the Labour Colony of Bhilwara district on Monday afternoon when a youth doused a 22-year-old girl with petrol and tried to set her ablaze. The girl began screaming on this and the family members came out and rescued her. The accused fled from the scene when people started gathering. Later he was arrested by the police.According to police, 23-year-old Nazarul Pathan, resident of Kotri town of Bhilwara on Monday after came to Labour Colony on a bike and stopped a 22-year-old girl when she stepped out of her house. Nazarul was angry and was forcing the girl to marry him. The girl refused and started walking towards the road. Annoyed at being snubbed, Nazarul took out a bottle of petrol and threw it on her while shouting that she will not live to marry any other person. The girl on realising what had happened screamed for help. On hearing her shouts her family members rushed to her rescue.Even other members of the colony and passers-by gathered. Nazarul tried to throw a lighted match on the girl but the crowd rescued the girl. The accused fled from the scene when he saw he had failed in his crime. Investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector Anwar of Partap Nagar police station said that they registered a case and caught Nazarul Pathan from Kotri. “We are interrogating him,” said Anwar.Police said that the victim and the accused were known to each other as they went to the same tuition centre once but later the accused started forcing the girl to marry him. The girl rejected his proposal. It came out during investigation that the accused was annoyed on being rejected and on Monday afternoon he decided to wait for the girl outside her house.
