However, the sessions court convicted them for abetment to suicide under section 306 of Indian Penal Code and awarded a sentence of three-andhalf years to both of them.During hearing, their counsel said: “They are old and there was no evidence about their involvement in the case.” ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court has ordered former BSP MP Narendra Kashyap and his wife Devendri Kashyap to be released on bail in connection with a dowry death case filed by their daughter-in-law.Both Kashyap, a former Rajya Sabha member, and his wife had filed a criminal appeal before the high court challenging the sentence awarded to them by a Sessions court in Ghaziabad for abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.Kashyaps’ daughter-inlaw was found dead on April 6, 2016, and her in-laws had claimed that she had committed suicide using her husband’s revolver.The woman’s parents and relatives had alleged that she was killed by the Kashyap family over dowry.An FIR was lodged on April 6, 2016 at Kabirnagar police station in Ghaziabad against six persons, including Kahsyap, for the alleged murder.The two were arrested on April 7, 2016.During the trial, the sessions court in Ghaziabad, last week, acquitted them of charges relating to demand of dowry, as per section 304B of IPC.
