Police tracking hotspots for interstate calls to check crime

On Monday officials ranking from sub inspectors to Additional SPs took part in foot patrolling on identified pockets. ALLAHABAD: Seeking to contain the rising crime graph in the region, police have compiled a list of hotspots, from where maximum number of calls were made to UP100 in 2017, in Allahabad, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur Hotspots are areas with high intensity of criminal incidents. Based on the inputs ffrom the data, the police have launched a foot patrolling plan in these hotspots.“Hotspot policing is a well-planned strategy which involves targeting of resources to those static points, where crime is most concentrated. The list was compiled by compiling crimes from thanas.IG (Allahabad range) Ramit Sharma said, “After analysing over 16,000 calls being made on UP 100, the department has compiled a list of hotspots thana-wise from where maximum number of calls were made throughout the year. The exercise was carried out in all four districts of Allahabad range.”Sharma said the data was compiled under different categories like theft, auto theft, snatching and robbery.

The strategy is based on the studies which indicate that crime and disorder are not evenly spread across neighbourhoods but clustered in small locations.”In Allahabad, the police department has listed more than 40 hotspots in each of the 39 police stations and also drafted a foot patrolling plan.Police stations like Dhoomanganj, Kotwali, Colonelganj, Civil Lines, Georgetown, Jhunsi, Kareli, Shivkuti, Nawabganj have more hot spots compared to other police stations of the city.
