ATS joins probe with Allahabad police in ISIS text case

The local police have been assisting the ATS squad and things would be clearer within a day or two. The FIR was registered with Dhoomanganj police under the IT Act late Friday night.SP (city) Brajesh Kumar Srivastva, said, "The ATS unit of UP Police has started its investigation into the case. "IG (ATS) Asim Arun said that Allahabad police chief had asked for assistance in the case and the ATS was probing it.Srivastava said the youth approached the police after he was added to an unidentified WhatsApp group and with the logo of ISIS as a display picture. ALLAHABAD: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) unit of UP Police is investigating an FIR lodged by an Allahabad-based youth alleging that he was contacted by members of terrorist organisation Islamic State (ISIS) on WhatsApp and was promised $5,000 in exchange for sensitive information about Indian intelligence agencies on Saturday.The youth, who is working in the city after completing his studies in Mumbai, received the messages from two different US-based numbers. He received the messages on the group from two different numbers.The youth also told the police that the miscreants threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to follow their orders.Police said that the man received the message while he was watching a movie online, on Friday, when he was added to an unidentified WhatsApp group.Initially, the youth tried to leave the group suspecting foul play but the group’s administrator kept adding him to the same group.
