8 die as dumper hits tempo in UP

ALLAHABAD: A speeding dumper rammed into a tempo killing eight people, including six schoolgirls, and injured two on the Jhansi-Mirzapur national highway in Chitrakoot on Monday afternoon.After the accident, locals and family members of the deceased students blocked vehicular movement on the highway demanding the arrest of errant driver. The protesters also made a futile attempt to torch the dumper.Police from six police stations rushed to the spot to control the crowd, which had even placed the dead bodies in the middle of the road.Allahabad zone ADG SN Sabat said that the six schoolgirls were on their way back home after collecting pass certificates from their school, Chandresh Inter College in Bargarh The deceased were identified as Kavita (17), Sonam (18), Savita (17), Rangeela (14), Pramila (18), Chaya (12), Ashish aka Darshan Mishra (40) and Manik Chand (36) – all residents of Bargarh.
