GPS-fitted vehicles to meet Swachh targets at Kumbh

ALLAHABAD: The Mela authorities will install GPS tacking devices in over 200 vehicles to be deployed for garbage collection to maintaining sanitation at the venue during the Kumbh Mela The GPS-fitted vehicles will be transporting the garbage collected directly to the Baswar garbage disposal plant in Naini from the Kumbh Mela venue.The Mela authority would also work for on-site sludge management, cesspool operations and odour management to keep the ground clean.Moreover, around one lakh mobile toilets would be installed to deter devotees from defecating in the open and a robust ICT-based system will also be used to ensure that these toilets are cleaned at regular intervals.District magistrate (Kumbh Mela) Vivek Kiran Anand said, "For the first time, all vehicles to be used garbage disposal during the Kumbh Mela would be fitted with a GPS tracking device. This would help Mela officials keep a close eye on garbage disposal vehicles." Anand said that more than 20,000 dustbins with liner bags will be used at the Mela venue for solid waste management and the distance between any two dustbins would be 50 metre.Moreover, over 11,000 sanitary workers would be employed for sweeping the premises and solid waste management.
