Allahabad High Court asks Hapur Electricity Department to pay Rs 1 lakh to Kerala flood relief fund

The next date of hearing in the case is on September 11. ALLAHABAD: At a time when people across the country are contributing to help the needy in flood-hit Kerala, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Hapur Electricity Department to pay Rs 1 lakh to Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for showing laxity.The high court bench of Justice Shashikant Gupta and Justice Ajit Kumar passed the order while hearing the complaint filed by Gaurav Sharma.Despite several hearings in the case, no one from the electricity department filed a reply. The court summoned executive engineer Rakesh Kumar.While turning down the clarification filed by Rakesh Kumar on behalf of his department, the court lashed out at the electricity department for its laxity.The court said in its order that negligence of the department has wasted time and money and thus imposed a fine of Rs one lakh.The court then ordered the department to deposit the amount in the relief fund.
