ALLAHABAD: The Pratapgarh police on Thursday rescued the leader of an inter-state gang of robbers, who was held captive by his own associates for running away with Rs 26 lakh booty after disposing off looted goods.Besides UP, this gang of robbers and kidnappers is also wanted by the Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat Police in over a dozen cases. The gang has been involved in looting trucks loaded either with electronic goods or precious metals like copper and aluminium across the country.Police said Sonu, Shahrukh, Salman, Shoiab and Naved alias Khuchcha were arrested near Azad Nagar of Pratapgarh district on Thursday morning and the kingpin, identified as Sarwar alias Roshan of Bharauli locality, was rescued from their clutches.“Acting on a tip-off, the police rescued Sarwar and arrested five members of his gang who had kidnapped him from Bhairavpur area on August 27 and also tortured him in captivity due to the dispute over the booty,” said SP (city) Purnendu Singh adding that during investigation.The gang of six men had looted a copper-laden truck near the Delhi border in January this year when it was on its way to Bhavnagar (Gujarat) from Panipat (Haryana).
