ALLAHABAD: Three women constables of Pratapgarh police’s anti-Romeo squad were in for a rude shock when a group of motorcycle-borne miscreants reportedly passed lewd remarks at them and even assaulted them when they tried to stop the eve-teasers near Udaiyatdeeh turn under Patti police station, on Saturday evening.Police said that they have nabbed two of the three miscreants and the third one is currently on the run. As per police reports, the three woman police officers were dressed in plain clothes and were patrolling the area near Udaiyatdeeh turn, under the jurisdiction of Patti police station.The three were a part of the six-member team of anti-Romeo squad, comprising three men and three women cops . SP (city) Pratapgarh, Purnendu Singh, said, “The two accused who have been arrested were identified as Ramendra Pratap and Vikram Singh, both residents of Johlapur. Their accomplice Ashish managed to escape.”Singh said that a case under Section 354, 216 and 217 of the Indian Penal Code had been lodged.“When these women constables spotted the three youths travelling on the same motorcycle in a vegetable market they asked them to stop. Before the women police constables could take any action against them for triple riding, one of them started passing lewd remarks and even asked one of the constables to accompany them on the same motorcycle,” the SP said.“The miscreants continued to pass vulgar comments despite the constables’ warning. When one of the women resisted and tried to catch hold of them, the miscreants allegedly assaulted her,” Singh added.Local police rushed to the spot after being alerted and managed to catch two of the three eve-teasers while one of them managed to escape.
