ALLAHABAD: More than a dozen passengers were robbed by armed men early Monday morning near Panhai railway station in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR has been lodged with GRP Allahabad police station regarding the incident.Victims told police that the strength of the robbers was more than a dozen when they started beating and looting passengers. Four of the passengers were seriously injured in the dacoity.Ironically the incident took place when the GRP squads of Allahabad and Jhansi were on board for the safety of passengers.Meanwhile, GRP officials claimed that the squad had exchanged fire with robbers near the station when robbers were fleeing after executing the dacoity.Meanwhile senior police officials rushed to the spot and carried out investigations. Four passengers were seriously injured in the train dacoity when they resisted against the robbers and were admitted in a hospital in Allahabad.ADG Allahabad zone SN Sabat told TOI that more than a dozen armed robbers had looted several passengers travelling in S 6 and S 7 coaches of 12569 Ganga-Kaveri Express when it was on its way to Chapra from Chennai.He further added that the armed robbers had pulled the chain near Panhai railway station and injured 12 passengers, four of them seriously, while executing the train dacoity.
