Teachers' recruitment: ERA secretary suspended for anomalies

LUCKNOW/ALLAHABAD: Following reports of gross anomalies in the primary teacher recruitment process, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended secretary of Examination Regulatory Authority (ERA) Sutta Singh, who was prima facie found guilty. The government has also instituted a high-level committee to probe the irregularities in the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination 2018. Prima facie, there are gross anomalies in the recruitmnent process and it needed a detailed investigation so that action could be taken against errant officials. The ATRE was to fill 68,500 vacant posts of teachers in government primary schools. The chief minister's office has also ordered disciplinary action against Singh, and she has been attached to the basic education department till inquiry is pending against her.

LUCKNOW/ALLAHABAD: Following reports of gross anomalies in the primary teacher recruitment process, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended secretary of Examination Regulatory Authority (ERA) Sutta Singh, who was prima facie found guilty. The government has also instituted a high-level committee to probe the irregularities in the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination 2018. The ATRE was to fill 68,500 vacant posts of teachers in government primary schools. Joint director (Meerut division) Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi has replaced Singh as the ERA secretary.A press release issued by the chief minister's office said the committee would be headed by principal secretary of sugar industry and cane development department Sanjay Bhoosreddy and will have director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Vedpati Mishra and director of basic education Sarvendra Vikram Singh as its members.The committee has been asked to submit its report within a week. The chief minister's office has also ordered disciplinary action against Singh, and she has been attached to the basic education department till inquiry is pending against her. The action came following a writ petition filed by candidate Sonia Singh in Allahabad high court alleging that her answer copy had been changed. During the hearing, advocate general had assured the court that the government would take action against the officials responsible for the lapse.A government spokesperson also said that it had come to light that 23 candidates who were not eligible for ATRE were made eligible. All these 23 appointments have been put on hold. Prima facie, there are gross anomalies in the recruitmnent process and it needed a detailed investigation so that action could be taken against errant officials. In addition, two candidates who had not appeared in the exams were declared successful. An aspirant was awarded only 22 marks in place of 122. Later, 5,696 qualified candidates were not allotted the districts for counselling process but they were accommodated after the intervention of the state government, officials said.On the directions of the CM, the vacant posts have also been immediately filled in Basic Shiksha Parishad (BSP), and ERA.
