Amitabh Bachchan’s ancestral village in UP 22 toilets away from ODF tag

ALLAHABAD: With over 80% of the work complete, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s ancestral village Babupatti , under the limits of Gaura panchayat in Raniganj in Pratapgarh district, is heading towards becoming open defecation-free (ODF) this year by constructing 151 toilets.The district administration is confident that it would be able to complete the remaining work on or before October 2.Assistant development officer (ADO) of Gaura panchayat, Kamlesh Shukla, said, “The department had set a target of constructing 151 toilets in Babupatti village, which has a population of 1,100.”Shukla said that the administration had completed the construction of 129 toilets and the rest would be completed by Gandhi Jayanti.The 129 toilets have been constructed in a short span of three months, say officials.“The department decided on the target of constructing 151 toilets in Babupatti after a survey. During the survey, the district administration got to know that 26 families of the village had already built toilets and some other families had managed to get loos constructed by virtue of being beneficiaries of the Lohia Awas Scheme.”Roshon, one of the local residents, who got a toilet constructed at his house, said, “Earlier a group of villagers were not in favour of getting a toilet constructed at their homes but after being getting to know about its advantages, they were convinced.”Roshan also said that he hoped that news about the village receiving an ODF tag would also make Bachchan happy.Gram pradhan of the Babupatti village, Kalawati, said, “It was not an easy task to convince these people to get toilets constructed.
