Bid to install Godse statue on Gandhi Jayanti foiled

ALLAHABAD: Tension prevailed in Sagwara village of Rajapur tehsil in Chitrakoot district on Tuesday when four persons, claiming to be members of Rashtriya Sanatan Dal, installed a statue of Nathuram Godse - the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi - outside village when the nation was observing Gandhi Jayanti Additional force was deployed in the area to keep the situation under control as locals were upset over the incident. The four persons, including Brijesh Pandey, the founding member and co-convener of the organization, were detained and are being quizzed.Chitrakoot SP Manoj Kumar Jha told TOI over phone, "Locals of Sagwara village alerted us about a statue of Nathuram Godse being installed outside the village falling under the jurisdiction of Rajapur police station. A police team and SDM Rajapur rushed to the spot and detained all the four persons. Two of them are from Chitrakoot, one is from Buxar and one hails from Banda." "Police also removed the statue as it was being installed without any permission of district authorities. A detailed probe is being conducted into the incident," the SP added."A group of four persons reached the site and started installation of Nathuram Godse's statue on the land of one Ramendra, who is said to be member of Rashtriya Sanatan Dal and is its Chitrakoot mandal president.
