UP government orders FIRs against fake teachers

Recent incidents of irregularities in recruitment process and paper leaks have already delayed the appointment and training process of hundreds of aspiring teachers. The selection of teachers through Assistant Teachers’ Recruitment Examination-2018 is shrouded by uncertainty following a probe ordered by the state government after large scale irregularities were reported in the evaluation process. The admission process for UPTET-2018 has also been delayed due to technical snags. ALLAHABAD: The state government has directed all district basic education officers (DBEOs) to terminate the services of teachers working in government primary school across Uttar Pradesh who had been appointed on the basis of fake marksheets and lodge FIRs against them.The state government has ordered that such teachers would also have to deposit the salary and allowances they had drawn while being in service.Additional chief secretary (basic education) Prabhat Kumar furnished a list of such teachers and the department has initiated action against them.The DBEOs of all the 75 districts of the state would have to submit details about the action taken against the errant teachers by Friday midnight.In 2015, the governmentappointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) found out that there were around 1,800 candidates who had been appointed as teachers in government schools across the state after securing fake BEd marksheets and certificates from BR Ambedkar University in Agra.The government also ordered action against those teachers who have remained absent for long periods due to reasons like switching to better job opportunities or have got married.“The services of teachers with an irregular attendance and those appointed on the basis of fake marksheets will be terminated and FIRs would be lodged against them.
