ALLAHABAD: Amid raging #MeToo movement in the country, vice-president Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday rooted for women empowerment saying female fraternity has been honoured in the Indian society since ages. He also backed 33% reservation for women."We always raise the slogan, 'Bharat Mata ki jai' and not 'Bharat pitah ki jai', all rivers have female names and so are names of goddess which come before their male counterparts... show me one man who says 'Krishna-Radha' or 'Ram-Sita'," said Naidu at a function held in the Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT-A). He also dedicated a state-of-art computational facility (CCF) to the nation at the institute.Explaining the students the responsibilities women have shouldered since ages, Naidu said: "Our goddesses have also been given important responsibilities... Mata Saraswati was perhaps the education minister, Lakshmi the finance minister and Durga the defence minister who would kill demons."He also advised the students to never forget five things in life: Mother (parents), mother place (place of birth), mother tongue, mother land (India) and guru (teacher). Naidu also said that women should be given 33% reservation.
