Pollution dips but air still very poor in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: The air pollution levels dropped by 23 units in Lucknow but the air quality continued to be ' very poor ' on Monday.The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city was 313, as per the data released by the Central Pollution Control Board. The situation is likely to get worse in the coming days when temperatures will fall," said director, air quality monitoring station, Lucknow University, Prof Dhruv Sen Singh. "The pollution levels will fluctuate due to changes in weather. It was followed by Aliganj, Talkatora and Lucknow University with PM 2.5 concentration recorded at 288.5, 252 and 210 micrograms, respectively.Nishatganj was the least polluted with PM2.5 concentration recorded at 123.7 micrograms per unit of air. Lucknow's pollution level was lower than that of Delhi where AQI was 328.As per the live air monitoring conducted at five locations - Lalbagh, Aliganj, Talkatora, Nishatganj and Lucknow University - the most polluted area was Lalbagh with PM2.5 concentration recorded at 292.6 micrograms per unit of air.

It was followed by Aliganj, Talkatora and Lucknow University with PM 2.5 concentration recorded at 288.5, 252 and 210 micrograms, respectively.Nishatganj was the least polluted with PM2.5 concentration recorded at 123.7 micrograms per unit of air. The concentrations levels of PM2.5 continued to be six times higher than the safe limit. "The pollution levels will fluctuate due to changes in weather. The situation is likely to get worse in the coming days when temperatures will fall," said director, air quality monitoring station, Lucknow University, Prof Dhruv Sen Singh.
