ALLAHABAD: A 30-year-old woman and her lover were arrested for allegedly planning and executing an acid attack on the former’s husband in Manjhanpur area in Kaushambi on Monday.As per police reports, the accused woman Geeta Devi was a resident of Karari and was married to Hanumat Prasad Kushwah, who was a private follower of the District Forest Officer (DFO).Geeta was having an extra-marital affair with Umashankar (27) for last two years.SP (Kaushambi) Pradeep Gupta, said, “Geeta wanted to get rid of her husband and marry Umashankar. He also told them that he used to visit Geeta’s house in Hanumat’s absence and the two had even been caught red-handed about a year back when he had gone to meet her at Diat Colony.However, Geeta continued to talk to Umashankar.Police said that Umashankar had taken his close friend Anil Singh Patel alias Major alias Janmejay’s help to plan the acid attack. During investigation, police found out that Geeta used to keep in constant touch with Umashankar, who owned a slipper shop in Myohar market When police picked up Umashankar for interrogation, he confessed to his crime and narrated the sequence of incidents.The SP said that Geeta had deliberately mentioned two persons citing false suspicion in the FIR to mislead the police.Umashankar told the police that Geeta often used to visit his shop and gradually the two fell in love.

When he called back, she told him that she was fed up with her husband’s alleged atrocities and would like to get rid of him.She asked Umashankar to plot an acid attack on her husband.He asked Geeta to bring Hanumat for a morning walk on December 8 morning and said that he would arrange for a man to attack her husband with acid.On December 8, when Geeta and Hanumat went out for the walk, two motorcycle-borne men approached the couple and threw acid on the husband.He was admitted to a private hospital in Manjhanpur, where he is undergoing treatment.Police said that Hanumat had sustained serious burn injuries on his face and the attack had left him partially blind.An FIR was registered in the case.
