No construction within 500 metre of high flood level: HC

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court has directed the Allahabad Development Authority, district administration and other authorities not to permit any construction within 500 meters of highest flood level (HFL) of river Ganga in Allahabad city.The HC also directed that Kumbh Mela Authority be made a respondent (opposite party) in this matter.Hearing a writ petition filed by Bhal Chandra Joshi and two others, a division bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kumar Singh Baghel and Justice Prakash Padia observed that this court has already passed a restrain order against any such construction within 500 meters of highest flood level of river Ganga in Allahabad city. The court said that the authorities are bound by the earlier directions of the HC in this regard.The grievance of the petitioner was that certain permanent constructions were being raised within 500 meters of HFL and in spite of earlier HC orders, the constructions were being raised'.While fixing January 28 as the next date of hearing of the matter, the court issued notices to Dinkar Rao Joshi, Mahant Dharmadas of Akhil Bharatiya Shri Panch Nirvani Ani Akhara, Hanumangarhi Ayodhya and Sada Shiv Joshi, who are respondents (opposite parties) in the petition.
