Allahabad: Constable asks for leave, told to take Kumbh quiz

As the Kumbh-2019 draws closer, the police department has become stingy while sanctioning leaves of traffic policemen.Before applying for leave, these traffic policemen are busy preparing themselves for the barrage of questions that are thrown their way by senior officials. He also said that in case the policemen failed to answer the queries, they were were asked to pay more attention to their work and their leaves were sanctioned if the reasons cited were important. As luck could have it, his performance passed the muster.

ALLAHABAD: When traffic constable Shyam Veer Singh (35) applied for a two-day leave to visit his hometown Etawah for a personal errand he didn't expect to be grilled by his seniors about the various arrangements made by the Mela Police for the Kumbh-2019.On Friday, when Singh informed his seniors that he wanted to take a leave, he had to answer an array of questions about his duty point at Arial Ghat, the diversion plans and what would he do in case of a disaster or an emergency. Confused but out of options, Singh slowly started answering the questions one by one. As luck could have it, his performance passed the muster. As the Kumbh-2019 draws closer, the police department has become stingy while sanctioning leaves of traffic policemen.Before applying for leave, these traffic policemen are busy preparing themselves for the barrage of questions that are thrown their way by senior officials. The senior policemen are leaving no territory untouched as their questions range from traffic management to disaster management, route diversions and even the traffic flow on pontoon bridges.Another traffic constable Pawan Kumar had sought a leave to accompany his wife as she had to go to another visit to appear for an examination. Little did he know that he himself would first have to take a test if he wanted to accompany his wife to that exam. The 32-year-old constanble's leave was sanctioned after he comfortably answered questions about the role of traffic policemen in managing heavy rush in Parade Ground, which was where he was deployed.SP (traffic Kumbh) OP Singh, said, "As the Kumbh Mela is round the corner, only those policemen's leaves are being sanctioned who have genuine reasons."He said that though the rounds of questioning that the policemen were subjected to had nothing to do with the leaves, but it was every traffic policeman's duty to know their role and responsibilities. He also said that in case the policemen failed to answer the queries, they were were asked to pay more attention to their work and their leaves were sanctioned if the reasons cited were important.
