UP: Mela police bans licensed weapons during Kumbh

"Mela police are on high alert and have decided to cap the use licensed weapons on the premises," Mishra added.
ALLAHABAD: Visitors to the Kumbh-2019 would not be allowed to carry licensed weapons with them in and around the Mela ground.The decision comes five days after a Juna Akhara saint complained to the Mela police that three armed persons had threatened him of dire consequences on sector no 14 of the Mela ground.
If anyone is found violating the rules, Mela police would confiscate the weapon as well as his/her licence.Additional SP (security-Kumbh Mela) Ashutosh Mishra, said, "If anyone wants to bring a licensed weapon to the Mela ground or an akhara, the user must inform the police.
He/she would have to submit an application citing their reasons for carrying a weapon along with a copy of licence.
Police said that they are yet to ascertain why the saint was threatened.
