Arrest warrant against Mohsin Raza, court declares him absconder

Raza did not appear in court after framing of charges in the matter.However, subsequently the matter was shifted to Allahabad following setting up of special court here as per the directions of the Supreme Court to exclusively deal with cases pending against elected state legislators and members of Parliament. The court in Lucknow took cognizance of the matter and issued summons to Raza, who in the course of time, became minister for minority affairs of the state.After several years, charges were framed against him on April 26, 2018. ALLAHABAD: Taking serious note of non-appearance by UP minister for minority affairs Mohsin Raza in a criminal matter despite court’s repeated directives, the special court (MP and MLA) on Friday issued arrest warrant against him and directed that he be declared an absconder.The court further directed that the process that ensues after declaring a person as absconder under section 82 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) be implemented and a loud declaration be made, asking Raza to appear before the court on February 20.Special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari, who is presiding over special court (MP and MLA) fixed February 20 as the next date of the hearing.A case was registered against Raza in 1989 at Wazirgarj police station in Lucknow in which he along with one Akbar had been accused of thrashing the complainant Lallan near Takia Kalash Bagh in the city.Subsequently, police investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet against Raza.
