ALLAHABAD: If you are a water sports enthusiast, you don’t need an expensive vacation to Goa or Chennai to try your hand at activities like parasailing or paramotoring.Come Kumbh-2019 and you will be able to enjoy these activities right here in Allahabad.The state department of tourism has planned to organise water and adventure sports activities at Arail Ghat on the Mela ground to boost Allahabad’s tourism potential.“Visitors would be able to enjoy various water and adventure sports at sector number 18 of the Mela area, January 15 onwards. The area is spread across 3.5 acre of land,” said Neeraj Pahuja, manager of UP tourism department.The list of activities to be offered at Arail Ghat during the Kumbh-2019 include parasailing, parmotoring, ball zorbing, water zorbing, wall climbing and, rides in water scooters, hot air balloon and all-terrain vehicles.Pahuja said that powered paragliding or paramotoring is a kind of sport wherein a person wears a motor (paramotor) on his/her back which provides enough thrust to help the paraglider take off.Another exciting sport which visitors would be able to enjoy during the Kumbh-2019 is ball zorbing. The ball is then rolled along the ground or down the hills.“Visitors would could try their hand at ball zorbing, both on land or in Yamuna,” he added.Sources said that the Prayagraj Mela Authority was still apprehensive about allowing parasailing given the volume of water in Yamuna.“We would have motor boats of different sizes and steamers, operating from the base camp and equipped with life jackets, to ferry visitors to and fro from the Sangam area,” said Pahuja.The authorities have started the construction of a jetty near Yamuna’s banks.The authority has selected an agency for facilitating the water and adventure sports activities.“We have not yet decided on the prices for different sports but would ensure that they are reasonable enough for the common public,” he added.
