Saint suffers cardiac arrest, airlifted to AIIMS

Allahabad: Hindu religious leader and founder chancellor of JRH University Chitrakoot, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami Rambhadracharya suffered a cardiac arrest on Kumbh Mela campus on Thursday. He was airlifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for angioplasty.The 69-year-old seer complained of severe chest pain, anxiety, shortness of breath and nausea late on Wednesday night. The University founded by him offers graduate and postgraduate courses to disabled students. He was immediately taken to Mela health centre and from there to a private hospital in the city.Additional director, medical and health services, AK Paliwal said, ”The specialists diagnosed Swami Rambhadracharya with myocardial infarction in which there is a sudden deficiency of circulating blood in heart resulting in cardiac failure.”He said experts recommended treatment to restore blood flow through angioplasty procedure and referred him to AIIMS. After consultation with Kumbh Mela officials, it was decided to use air-ambulance to get him admitted him to hospital.Dr Manish Aggarwal, director, Aeromed International Rescue Services said it was not possible to airlift him on Wednesday.He was carried to Bamrauli airport in a state-of-the-art ambulance from where an air-ambulance was readied for him.

Doctor Rupesh Kejriwal, a para-medical staff Mahendra Singh and an attendant accompanied the patient to Delhi, he said.The ambulance had to cover the 20-km distance to reach to Bamrauli airport civil enclave.The plane took off at 11 am and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport T1 Delhi after 2 hours from where he was taken to the hospital.Yogi government had entered into an agreement with a leading international patient transport company for providing the facility to seriously ill pilgrims.The visually impaired seer is also Sanskrit scholar, author, singer and composer. The University founded by him offers graduate and postgraduate courses to disabled students.
