Allahabad: Dissatisfied with the poor condition of medical facilities and pathetic condition of government hospitals in the state, the Allahabad high court on Monday directed UP chief secretary and principal secretary, medical health and family welfare, to take steps to improve medical facilities in the state and file an affidavit in this regard by the next date of hearing.Hearing a PIL filed by one Sneh Lata Singh and others, a division bench comprising Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Ajit Kumar fixed February 25 as the next date of hearing of the matter. The PIL has alleged pathetic condition in government hospitals across the state.The court has also issued showcause notice to principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad, Dr S P Singh asking him to explain as to why proceedings for criminal contempt may not be initiated against him and charges be not framed for filing a false affidavit in court with regard to functioning of Trauma Centre in the medical college.Passing the above directives, the court observed, “The budget of medical department is very huge but the effective access to medical services by the poor people is comparatively very low.
