Martyred jawan laid to rest as anger simmers in native village

Allahabad: Mahesh Kumar, the CRPF personnel from Meja who was killed in the Pulwama terrorist attack, was cremated with full state honours in his village Tudihar Badal ka Purwa on Saturday, even as local residents protested against the poor condition of roads leading up to the martyr’s house and compensation announced for his family.Mahesh’s father Rajkumar Yadav performed the last rites of his 26-year-old son.The martyr’s body was brought to Bamrauli Airport from Delhi via a special flight, along with the bodies of six other bravehearts from the state who died in the attack. The bodies were taken to CRPF Group Centre in Padila from the airport, under the supervision of deputy commandent Vinay Shankar Shukla. CRPF officials paid tributes to the soldiers at the centre and the bodies were then sent to the soldiers’ respective native vIllages.In Meja, local residents had started assembling at Mahesh’s house since early morning waiting for police to bring his body. Turning impatient after a few hours, the crowd demanded that chief minister Yogi Adityanath should visit the CRPF jawan’s house. The CM was scheduled to visit Allahbaad for a brief interval on Saturday. Mahesh’s relatives and villagers too were unhappy with the poor conditions of the roads leading his and the meagre compensation announced for his family. The residents also raised anti-Pakistan slogans and said the government should take action against the perpetrators of the terrorist strike.Later, sub divisional magistrate Vineet Kumar Singh intervened and assured the protesters that the administration would step in to redress their grievances as soon as possible. At 10.30am, CRPF personnel brought Mahesh’s body in a coffin wrapped in a tricolour, as the crowd started raising slogans hailing his martyrdom.The CRPF jawan’s wife Sanjoo Devi remained inconsolable while the couple’s two children—Samar (6) and Sahil (5)—were seen crying after seeing their family members grieving. Union minister Anupriya Patel, UP cabinet ministers Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Siddharth Nath Singh were among the politicians who reached Tudihar Badal ka Purwa to pay their condolences.Singh also presented a cheque to Mahesh’s family members of the martyr as an interim help from the state government.
