Kumbh Mela authority sets new Guinness World Record by parading largest number of buses

ALLAHABAD: The ongoing Kumbh Mela of the Sangam city has added first feather to its golden cap of breaking old records and setting new ones under Guinness World Records The Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran now holds the new record for parading largest number of buses. A total of 503 buses plied for a stretch of 3.2 kilometers on Thursday morning on part of national highway number 19 (Sahason to Nawabganj).This achievement broke the earlier Guinness record for parading largest number of buses at a time held by a fleet of 390 school buses which was made on Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway, starting from Al Saadiyat island and running up to Yas Island, in the UAE in 2010.The bee line of the UPSRTC buses ran for over eight kilometers on the national highway, each of these buses covered a distance of 3.2 km at a speed of 15 km/hr and maintaining a safe distance of 10 to 12 meters from each other.UPSRTC had issued directions to all the 18 regions of the state to send the buses along with manpower which had arrived in the city on Wednesday itself.Although, the authorities had plied 510 buses, but as per the guidelines of Guinness record, Seven buses failed to fulfill the norms and as such the line of 503 buses paraded at the national highway and this is the new Guinness record.The attempt was witnessed by a team of two adjudicators from the Guinness record headed by Rishinath.Earlier, the fleet of buses was flagged off by Aradhana Shukla, principal secretary transport department UP government, the commissioner Prayagraj zone, Ashish Goel, Kumbh mela adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand and several officials of the transport and police department.On the occasion, Shukla said, “This is a record in itself that these shuttle buses have carried 60 lakh passengers during the mela period and I am sure that now as the adjudicators and the witnesses have themselves seen the attempt being made, Kumbh would also be remembered for setting a new Guinness record for longest parade of buses”.Commissioner Prayagraj zone, Ashish Goel presented the details in regard to planning for breaking this record and other preparedness that were made for the same.
