Soon, admissions to Allahabad University colleges’ PhD courses via CRET

ALLAHABAD: In the next academic session, students appearing for the Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET) would be eligible for admissions in PhD courses offered by Allahabad University (AU) as well as its affiliated colleges.Colleges affiliated to AU had started offering doctoral programmes since last year.Earlier, students who had appeared for CRET could only apply for PhD admissions at AU.The desicion was taken during a meeting of AU’s Academic Council (AC), the body which decides about issues related to academics.The council decided that a new set of rules would formulated for admissions to PhD courses offered by AU and its constituent colleges.“The number of seats in a PhD course are specified well in advance. When CRET 2018 was conducted, there were seats available only at AU, as the constituent colleges were not allowed to admit students on the basis of CRET,” said a senior member of the council.“Once the new rules are approved by the executive council, AU’s constituent colleges can admit students in doctoral courses based on the former’s performance in CRET in the 2019-20 session,” he added.“The new set of rules and the main framework have already been formulated.
