Allahabad boy dies playing ‘gilli-danda’

Station officer of Khuldabad police station, Roshan Lal, said, “As per the complaint, Ashraf was hitting the oval shaped ‘gilli’ while Jamaal was standing next to him in the field. When Ashraf hit the ‘gilli’ with his full might, the ‘danda’ struck Jamaal on his head and he fell down instantly.” He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed during treatment. Allahabad: In a freak accident, a nine-year-old boy died after allegedly being hit by a stick while playing ‘gilli-danda’ in Chak Niratul, under the jurisdiction of Khuldabad police station, on Sunday.Police said that the deceased, Mohammed Jamaal, was playing ‘gilli-danda’ with Ashraf (name changed), 14, and a couple of other children.Jamaal’s father lodged a complaint, naming the boys playing with him, following which police lodged an FIR on charges of death by negligenceThe body has been sent for postmortem examination.
