Flame of faith: Post Kumbh, disciple lives up to his promise

Allahabad: Although the fest with the largest human gathering in the world is over and the Kumbh Mela ground wears a deserted look, still a lamp lighted atop a 55-feet-high platform shines like a lighthouse in the middle of the Ganga.Lit by a disciple of renowned Devraha Baba, Ramdasji, it is a unique way to prove his unflinching devotion for his guru. For many years, the lamp remained inside the Guru’s hut even after the Baba left for his heavenly abode and some nine years back, I decided to bring the lamp out so that devotees may offer their respect and prayers to this eternal lamp.”“Visible from a long distance, the 55-feet high lamp acts like a lighthouse for commuters and pilgrims,” said Anurag, a resident of Jhunsi. Ramdasji, who resides just besides the Shashtri Bridge, towards Jhunsi side of the river, has made a routine practice to climb the pillar, made of a thick tree trunk, check the oil in the lamp so that it remains burning round-the-clock throughout the year.In the recently concluded Kumbh, there were several visitors and pilgrims who used to visit his camp, curious of this unique lamp named after Devarishi Bhagwan Devraha Baba in sector 15 of the mela ground.Talking about the lamp, the seer said, “This lamp was originally lit by some of the followers of Devraha Baba when he made a visit to the Sangam around 30 years back.
