‘Liquor cess for cow shelters lacks vision’

Allahabad: Congress leader and in-charge of Allahabad division Nasimuddin Siddiqui, on Wednesday, said the Yogi government has handed over the responsibility of saving cows to drunkards.Referring the special cess imposed on liquor for funding shelter homes for cows, he said: “Imposing special tax on India-made foreign liquor and beer to save cow lacks vision. Drunkards have been asked to save our cows and bovine? The report of meet will be handed over to UP-east secretary.” Divisional-in-charge Nasimuddin Siddiqui took attendance of leaders and warned such leaders to be either accountable or be ready to leave the job.UPCC spokespersons Kishore Varshney said, “The former MPs and former MLAs seem to be engaged in election works so they could not attend the meet. This decision also means that safety of cows can be increased only when consumption of liquor increases so he has left the animal in lurch.”A special fee of Rs 10 per bottle has been imposed on consumption of IMFL in bars to fund stray cow shelters in the state.Siddiqui was in the city to preside over the Congress office-bearers’ meet.

He said that the move has hurt the sentiments of people who really care for cows.He also held a day-long meeting with Pradesh Congress committee (PCC) and All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders and officer-bearers’ in party office.Meanwhile, despite repeated reminders, only 80% of the total Congress leaders were present in party office for the divisional meeting here on Wednesday.
