DBEOs drag feet on hiring teachers in primary schools

With just two weeks left for the new academic session to start, district basic education officers (DBEOs) are yet to complete the process of appointment of teachers for the new government primary schools, which switched to English medium in April last year.The DBEOs were to appoint 10,880 teachers for 5,440 English medium government primary schools across the state by February.These primary schools switched to English medium to deter parents from sending their children to private institutes.The government also roped in a private firm for training teachers in the new mode of teaching.If the basic education department officials are anything to go by, then DBEOs are yet to appoint teachers in primary and upper primary schools as well.However, they are yet to take any action so despite repeated instructions issued by directorate.Additional director (education) Lalita Pradeep has issued a circular to all 75 DBEOs in the state directing them to complete the selection procedure at the earliest.“The newly selected English medium schools were to open from the new academic session of 2019-20.
