Allahabad: Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi’s ‘Ganga Yatra’ would not only mobilise support for the party, but is all set to counter Modi’s ‘Chai pe Charcha’ with her own version of ‘Boat pe charcha’. The poll voyage from Allahabad to Varanasi via steamer and car, has also been named ‘Sanchi baat, Priyanka ke sath’ and would commence at 9:30am on March 18, when she’s scheduled to cover the stretch from Manaiya to Sitamadhi via steamer.Instead of Chhatnag near Sangam, she will now board a special steamer at Manaiya, a small village inhabited by Nishads, 10km downstream from Sangam. The village lies on the right bank of Ganga, as one travels to Varanasi.Before commencing on the voyage from Manaiya, Priyanka will conduct her ‘Boat pe Charcha’, an interaction with a group of Allahabad University students. “I had invited her for an event at AU, but because of her busy schedule, she agreed to meet a group of 15 students on the boat, before commencing her campaign,” said Akhilesh Yadav, vice-president of AU students union.Starting from Manaiya, Priyanka would head for Dumduma, a village on the left bank of the Ganga, 15 km downstream. There, she would meet villagers at the ghat.At noon, she would arrive at the Sirsa bank and tour the village. Here, she will meet family members of Pulwama martyr Mahesh Kumar. Then Priyanka will continue her journey and reach Lakchhagrih in Handia at 1pm, where she will address locals. Mythology has it that Duryodhan tried to immolate Kunti and her five sons here, a well-known tourist site.From here, she would proceed for Manda and reach at 2pm and after a brief reception and interaction with locals and party workers, she would leave for Sitamadhi, associated with Sita. Priyanka is scheduled to make a night halt at this place.
