Allahabad: Come May 1 and passengers unable to board a train from the scheduled railway station will soon be able to change their boarding point even four hours before the its departure. The North Central Railway (NCR) will allow passengers to change their boarding point four hours before the train’s scheduled departure, as against the earlier rule of 24 hours, May 1 onwards.Public relations officer of NCR, Amit Malviya, said, “Currently, passengers can change their boarding point 24 hours before the scheduled departure of a train. With the new facility, they will be able to change it before the final reservation charts are prepared.” These charts are prepared four hours before a train is supposed to depart from a railway station. Malviya said that the facility can be availed twice after a ticket is booked. The NCR PRO said that passengers would not have to pay anything extra for the service, however, they will not get a refund on cancellation of the ticket if the boarding point is changed 24 hours before a train’s scheduled departure.Passengers will have the option of changing their boarding station either online through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) website or offline at ticket counters. One can also change a boarding station by calling up the railway inquiry at 139.“Passengers opting for the VIKALP option would not be able to change their boarding point, as the facility is not allowed for I-Ticket,” he said.The official said that the facility will not be available for current booking ticket, which are booked after the final reservation charts are prepared.
