UP: Woman arrested for offensive video on Hindu deities in Prayagraj

Allahabad: A 28-year-old woman was arrested in Prayagraj’s Khuldabad area on Tuesday for allegedly uploading a three-minute video on YouTube containing abusive and objectionable words about Hindu deities. She was identified as Heer Khan (28). Circle Officer Amit Kumar Srivastava said the police took suo motu cognisance of the video. “She is a resident of Khuldabad in Prayagraj and is unemployed. She was arrested on Tuesday,” he added.

In his complaint, Sub-Inspector Prabhat Kumar Singh said, “…There is a video on YouTube where a woman named Heer Khan is heard using objectionable language for Hindu gods and goddesses. She uses abusive words for the gods and goddesses in the 3 minutes 58 second video. The video has been uploaded with an intention to flare communal passions between communities and is intended to affect the harmony in society.” In a statement, Prayagraj Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishedk Dixit said, “A video was viral on social media where a woman is using extremely vulgar and objectionable language for Hindu gods and goddesses…Action is being taken. And I would like to warn all anti-social elements that if anyone hurts the feelings of a religious community or will try to create a divide between two communities will face the strictest of action.”

Khuldabad Station House Officer (SHO) Vineet Singh said Khan was a Class 10 dropout. She has been living with her mother since her father’s death several years ago. “She is unemployed and did this to get cheap publicity in all likelihood,” the SHO added. The case has been filed against her under IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), and Section 66 of the IT Act.
