Prayagraj: Covid positivity rate slumps from 15.46% to 3.26% in a month

PRAYAGRAJ: The Covid-19 positivity rate of Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi districts in Prayagraj range has declined 12.20%, 3.9%, 1.72% and 2.97%, respectively, this month compared to the month of April. Interestingly, Prayagraj district has recorded the highest decline in positivity rate in the Prayagraj range as the recovery percentage of Prayagraj district is now nearing 98%.

PRAYAGRAJ: The Covid-19 positivity rate of Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi districts in Prayagraj range has declined 12.20%, 3.9%, 1.72% and 2.97%, respectively, this month compared to the month of April. Interestingly, Prayagraj district has recorded the highest decline in positivity rate in the Prayagraj range as the recovery percentage of Prayagraj district is now nearing 98%.

In April, the positivity rate of all four districts was as follows: Prayagraj (15.46%), Pratapgarh (8.67%), Fatehpur (2.56%) and Kaushambi ( 3.94%). The same till May 28 was as follows: Prayagraj (3.26%), Pratapgarh (4,77%), Fatehpur (0.84%) and Kaushambi (0.97%). The positivity rate of Prayagraj range was 7.65% in April while it dropped to 2.46% in May. The range recorded 5.19% decline in the gap of one month.

Nodal officer and additional chief medical officer, Dr. Rishi Sahai, admitted to TOI that there has been a noticeable decline in the positivity rate of Sangam city - from 15.46% to 3.26% - within a gap of one month. "The Sangam city has recorded 77,838 cases till May 28 and 75,833 (67,762) of them completed home isolation while 8,071 were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

The city now has only 1,108 active cases. For the past three days, the city recorded less than 50 Covid positive cases.
He further added that Prayagraj district has conducted 5,627 average testing in the past week and found only 0.29 percent positivity rate. Similarly, the positivity rate in neighbouring districts of Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi was recorded 0.27, 0.15 and 0.02 percent, respectively, last week. Pointedly, the health officials have focussed more on contact tracing and districts like Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi had traced 1708, 633, 217 and 110 cases respectively in the past two weeks.

Dr. Sahai, said, "Hard work of frontline workers and three "T" formula - track, test and treat - has helped health authorities to bring the positivity rate down in all four districts of the range. Till May 28, the number of active cases in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi district was 1106, 561, 62, and 21, respectively. As far as Prayagraj district was concerned, the analysis report of the health department revealed that there was a drastic rise in the number of Covid cases between April 6 and 17 and that the city registered the highest number of daily cases (2,436) on April 17.

While the number of cases on April 6 was1,084, it crossed 1,500 cases on April 10 when the city had recorded 1,682 cases. The city then touched the mark of 2,000 cases on April 15 and recorded 2,324 cases on a single day on April 15. The caseload remained between 2,000 and 2,300 from April 1 to 25 and the number of positive cases came down below 2,000 on April 25, when 1,874 cases were recorded. The number of cases reported daily started to fall below 1,500 from April 28, when 1493 cases were recorded that day. Moreover, the graph finally came down below 1,000 on May 2 when 984 cases were reported.


Figures also revealed that Covid-19 positive cases slipped below 500 on May 7 and that the numbers further declined below 200 on May 14. Interestingly, the graph of caseload came below 100 cases on May 19 when it recorded only 96 cases. Moreover, the graph of cases came down to less than 50 on May 25.
