ALLAHABAD: Costumes are always a visual treat in a Ramlila. The committees are scanning the markets to get the best available costume and create magic. With Navratra inching closer and committees gearing up for Ramlila, they are focusing on costumes. The committees have already placed their order for traditional and attractive costumes, jewellery and weapons for Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman, Rawan and others to leave a lasting impression on audience.They do not resemblance in costume with rival committees. The suppliers also collect raw material from different parts of the country to make the costumes. "We have brought raw material, including cloth, to stitch costumes for characters playing different roles at Patharchatti Ramlila committee from Surat," a supplier said. Characters playing different roles in Pajawa Ramlila would get attires from Delhi.This year, suppliers have brought raw material from Mathura, Kolkata, Surat and Delhi to stitch costumes for various characters of different Ramlila committees with the assurances that there be no resemblance of costumes. "Jewellery for different women characters are being brought from Maharashtra. Apparels for Lord Ram and his brothers come from from Surat and Mathura," another supplier claimed."It's not an easy job to select suitable costume for a character. We have to search different parts of the country to make the Ramlila unique," office-bearer of a Ramlila committee Anand Dubey said. "Once the entire team select the costume, we also consult the person who is playing the particular character before sending it to get stitched," he added.In the past five years, Ramlila committees are focussing more on costumes. Majority of Ramlila committees have finalised the actors. The garments are being stitched to give that special look. Even small committees focus on costumes and shell out extra bucks to get designer and attractive dresses for the performers. Weapons and masks are also much in demand. The actors too feel confident while performing in the desired masks.
