Durga puja pandal promotes literacy in Allahabad

ALLAHABAD: As various barwari's (the term used for Durga Puja Samiti) of the city prepares to welcome Maa Durga in the respective pandals, one pandal that stands different from others is the one in Tagore town. Along with this, the pandal is also trying to bring back the younger generation which has narrowed its reach by social media and mobile phones. The craftsmen has carefully followed every minute details of a library, the stack area, selves having the books which are in Bengali and Hindi language, titles of prominent books etc. "Most of the younger generation seldom visit library and they try to find solution to everything on their mobile phones, thus we want the old rich tradition of library to come back in the minds of younger generation because reading and books are the best friend of not only this generation but for all", said Pradeep. Celebrating its platinum jubilee, this barwari is all set to confront the problem of illiteracy in the country and as such the visitor to this pandal will get confused whether it's a library or place of worship.The outer structure of this pandal resembles as if one is entering a library or a book fest.

The craftsmen has carefully followed every minute details of a library, the stack area, selves having the books which are in Bengali and Hindi language, titles of prominent books etc. This artificial library has various floor of stack areas filled with books and at the very entrance welcomes an old man who is reading a book, which symbolises that the pandal also promotes spreading literacy among the elders.Senior office bearer of the barwari, Pradeep Mukherjee said, "in our country although the government and various social organisation promotes the idea of eradicating illiteracy but when one join this with the religious sentiments, we think that people will understand much better and thus we came up with the idea that for eradicating illiteracy, Maa Durga is giving her blessings".The idols of the deity of this barwari are made in such a way that it looks like they are coming from the book itself. Along with this, the pandal is also trying to bring back the younger generation which has narrowed its reach by social media and mobile phones.
