Aarushi murder case: Verdict delayed by 45 mins but read out in only six

ALLAHABAD: The original time listed for the verdict on appeal by Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj was 2pm, but there was a 45minute delay at the courtroom number 40 in Allahabad high court on Thursday.The courtroom where a division bench, Justice B K Narayana and Justice A K Mishra, witnessed noisy scenes as lawyers, friends of the Talwars and civil society members gathered to hear the judgment.Many had brought sweets in anticipation of a favourable verdict. The CRPF , which mans the security at the HC, deployed extra manpower outside room number 40.When the bench resumed hearing at 2:45pm, there was, however, pin-drop silence.The moment the bench said they had heard the submission and were not inclined to uphold the appellants liable to be guilty, two CBI lawyers looked at each other helplessly.As the bench dwelt upon the statement of the key wit ness, Bharati Mondal, Talwars' lawyers shook hands.She was working with the Talwar household when the crime took place.Even before the bench could spell out the order and stopped at the alternate hypothesis theory , joy on the faces of Talwars' friends was clearly visible.The order on the acquittal was read out in six minutes.
