CISF teams to guard Allahabad Museum

ALLAHABAD: Following a directive from the Centre, teams of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) would be deployed at Allahabad Museum to protect 70,000 rare objects and artifacts from theft and vandalism. CISF will also escort artifacts whenever they are shifted from the museum to other venues for exhibitions. Director of Allahabad Museum, said, "A joint team of CISF guards and the museum officials will conduct a survey to assess the risk involved and find ways to secure the artifacts from of vandalism.Their focus will be mainly on crime prevention and control." "On the basis of the report, CISF will assess the number of personnel required for security, the space needed for their accommodation, transport and administrative requirements," added Gupta. CISF will also get Rs 5.50 lakh as survey fee.

A screening machine would also be installed at the museum's entrance to scan the belongings of visitors before their entry into the building.The Union government's decision comes after National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), of which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the chairman, in its recent report termed the 87-year-old museum as "prone to vandalism".The museum has only a couple of guards to protect the artifacts , the building and its employees from any untoward incident. Director of Allahabad Museum, said, "A joint team of CISF guards and the museum officials will conduct a survey to assess the risk involved and find ways to secure the artifacts from of vandalism.Their focus will be mainly on crime prevention and control."
