Gurjeet Singh Aujla checks trains, finds toilets blocked

AMRITSAR: Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla conducted a surprise check of the city railway station where he found the deputy station master sleeping in the office of the station master. “Toilets were found blocked in all passenger trains due to lack of cleaning and filling of water,” he said.He said the contractors had been fined and blacklisted several times, but they had dodged the department by changing names of their firms. Aujla went to the railway station at 3.30am on Monday and checked Amritsar-Nagpur Express, Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi, Amritsar-Pathankot passenger, Amritsar-Nanded Express and Amritsar-Haridwar Jan Shatabdi trains Later talking to newspersons, Aujla said during checking, he found deputy station master Rajesh Sharma sleeping in the office of station master. He said he had warned the officials and companies handling the cleaning process to mend their ways, but no improvement has been noticed.“I can’t even describe the condition of the pantry cars in the trains,” Aujla said.He added that he would meet the minister of state for railways and general manager of the Northern Railway, asking them to fix responsibilities of persons accountable to maintain trains.
