Amritsar, July 7 Three cops have been arrested for “extorting” money from a vendor near Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai on the premises of Golden Temple. Identified as Paramjit Singh, Mustaq Masih and Rajinder Singh, they have been placed under suspension. They were identified through CCTV cameras installed at the Darbar Sahib. According to information, their seniors tried to protect them, but Police Commissioner SS Srivastav ordered registration of the case when the matter was brought to his knowledge. A case under Sections 384 and 385 of the IPC has been registered against them at the Kotwali police station. Complainant Sees Ram, who sells toys at his stall, told the police that the three cops came to him and snatched Rs 23,000 that he had saved for days. He said the cops threatened to register a case against him. The cops were posted in the CIA staff. Immediately after the incident, Sees Ram informed SGPC officials about the incident. The Galliara police scrutinised the CCTV footage and identified the accused. Police Commissioner SS Srivastav said he would not tolerate such acts.
